Formed in late 2014, SOPEC began as a simple governmental aggregator that allowed three neighboring communities to create an electric aggregation program together. In 2015, SOPEC began to add other programs focused on energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy development. SOPEC continues to grow. Today, 21 local governments and political subdivisions have joined the SOPEC Council of Governments for sustainability-driven electric aggregation programming and energy services.
