Please join us in extending best wishes to Dawn Worley-Sims, whose resignation will bring her 20-year tenure with the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce to a close at the end of April 2022. Dawn will be sorely missed by the Chamber and the Athens business community as a whole, and it is with gratitude that we look back on Dawn’s many contributions throughout her Chamber career.
For over two decades, Dawn’s friendly and fun-loving presence has been a reliable constant at Chamber events. She has provided staff continuity for members through several presidential terms and has been instrumental in maintaining the rich relationships that make the Athens Area Chamber so strong. In fact, it’s safe to say that many of us have never experienced the Chamber without Dawn being a part of it.
Dawn started as an administrative assistant in September 2001 and shortly thereafter was promoted to Project Manager. During this time, she helped to create Uptown for the Holidays and single-handedly coordinated the multi-day event for over a decade, building it into the beloved Athens holiday tradition that it now is. And if you’ve ever enjoyed a day on the greens for our Golf Benefit, you have Dawn to thank – she has been the driving force in planning that event for many years.
Always quick with a smile or a joke, Dawn’s knack for connecting with others and community-building led to her more recent promotions to the Director of Operations and Director of Membership positions. In these roles she has helped to expand and re-energize the Ambassador program and has noticeably grown the membership. In fact, in just these first few months of 2022 she secured 22 new members.
Of course, if you know Dawn then you know how humble she can be. That modesty, coupled with her strong belief in and love for the mission of the Chamber and the Athens community, shines through her parting words: “We have accomplished so much together. I can’t say “I” because it takes all of us working together to create such a unique, beautiful, thriving community. I am grateful and humbled to have played a small part.”
Dawn will be with the Chamber until Friday, April 29th. To share your congratulations and well-wishes with her, please feel free to stop by the Chamber office, attend one of our upcoming events, or send her an email: Dawn@athenschamber.com.
