MaryKathyrine Tran – Session 3B – What’s in Your Garden? Utilizing Personal Asset Mapping for Self-Reflection and Goal Setting

MaryKathyrine Tran is Assistant Director for the Ohio University Women’s Center.  Moving to Athens in February of this year, MaryKathyrine has a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English and Women’s and Gender Studies with a certification in LGBTQ Studies, and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Policy with certifications in Educational Leadership for Social Justice and Post-Secondary, Technical, and Adult Education from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, WI.

MaryKathyrine’s session, What’s in Your Garden? Utilizing Personal Asset Mapping for Self-Reflection and Goal Setting will help participants recognize what’s in their own “garden” and what collection of skills, strengths, and connections can be used to achieve unique goals.  Based on the concept of asset-based community development (ABCD), this workshop will help participants begin to recognize the ways in which we bring our unique selves forward by embracing our own stories and attracting success by building off existing assets and networks.

Proud mom to grumpy cat Effy, MaryKathyrine enjoys exploring new coffee shops and cafes, crossword puzzles, and searching for the best vegan cheese to eat while watching shows about ghosts.  She cites her greatest accomplishment as completing two AmeriCorps terms with two amazing youth-serving non-profits.  Her favorite quote is by Deepak Chopra:  If you obsess over whether you are making the right decision, you are basically assuming that the universe will reward you for one thing and punish you for another. The universe has no fixed agenda. Once you make any decision, it works around that decision. There is no right or wrong, only a series of possibilities that shift with each thought, feeling, and action that you experience.”
